A Special Corey Taylor Edition Of '80s Horror Doc In Search Of Darkness Is Being Released

The Slipknot and Stone Sour man will 'host' an special edition of the forthcoming documentary about '80s horror films.

Forthcoming horror documentary In Search Of Darkness – a look at the most iconic (and goriest) horror films of the 1980s – has announced a special Corey Taylor edition.

Available for pre-order for a limited time (until midnight on Halloween, naturally), the Corey Taylor version apparently features all-new additional content from the Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman including new segments for each year between 1980 and 1989 where he reveals his favourite horror moments.

It will also apparently come “packed with unique collectibles that you won’t find anywhere else”, including a poster, an enamel pin and a postcard. It retails for $59.99 with free worldwide shipping and is available for pre-order here. It also comes with a special Corey Taylor-fied cover.

The film itself has been directed by David A Weiner and features interviews with a huge list of ’80s horror stars, directors and special effects people, including the likes of John Carpenter, Heather Langenkamp, Joe Dante, Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, plus many more.

An extra incentive for anybody pre-ordering this special edition will also have their name featured in the credits at the end.

The film, which was funded on both Kickstarter and Indiegogo, was apparently compiled from more than 40 filmed interviews and over 100 interviews. You can see a trailer for Corey Taylor edition below.

Among many of the insights promised by the makers of the movie is John Carpenter – director of The Fog, The Thing, They Live and Prince Of Darkness, among many others – describing how his dislike of the “greed is good” ethos of the ’80s motivated him to create They Live, and how The Thing’s initial critical and financial failure led to him losing the director spot on Stephen King’s Firestarter.

Gremlins director Joe Dante apparently also explains how Gremlins started off as a much darker film, and not the classic kitschy horrow-comedy it became.
