blink-182's Mark Hoppus gives update on cancer battle
On Twitch, blink-182's Mark Hoppus told fans about the good and bad days he's been experiencing with his chemotherapy treatment.
After announcing last week that he has been battling cancer for the past three months, Mark Hoppus has given fans an update on how he's doing.
During a recent game of Blinko on his Twitch channel (via Absolute Radio), the blink-182 bassist spoke about the ups and downs he's experiencing during various rounds of chemotherapy, explaining, "How am I feeling today? I feel much better than yesterday. Yesterday was hellish for me and I woke up today feeling better – I went for a walk, and I had a decent breakfast, and I haven’t felt like I was going to throw up today, so we’ll take it as a win."
Mark also thanked fans for their well wishes, and detailed what he's been up to – when feeling physically up to it.
"On good days, I go do stuff," he said. "I went on a walk outside today and it was the first time I’d left my house in like… five days pretty much. But this round of chemo I wasn’t totally stuck on the couch, miserable. I’ve actually watched movies and walked around and cleaned the house and hung out with my dogs.
"I didn’t just feel like a poisoned electrified zombie leaning up against an electric fence like I did the rest, the past couple of rounds.
"I can’t go anywhere right now," he added. "I wanted to go to the Dodgers last night – I can’t. I want to go hang out with friends and go to a restaurant – I can’t. My white blood cell count is way too low for me to go out so I am stuck trying to get better. That’s alright, I’ll take it."
blink-182 bandmate Travis Barker told E! News last week: "Mark is my brother and I love and support him. I will be with him every step of the way onstage and off and can’t wait for us to play together again soon.”
Former blink frontman Tom DeLonge also said: "I too, have been aware of Mark Hoppus’ cancer diagnosis for awhile now. And to add to his own words that he used today, I would also like to say that he is strong, and a super-human who is pushing through this difficult obstacle with a wide-open heart. #WeHaveHisBack”
