Clown: Slipknot have an unreleased Paul Gray tribute song

Slipknot's Shawn 'Clown' Crahan reveals the band are sitting on a track called Without The Gray, a tribute to their late bassist Paul.

As well as sitting on unreleased 2008 project Look Outside Your Window (which, last we heard, is set to come out during the We Are Not Your Kind cycle), Slipknot's Clown has revealed that the band have a Paul Gray tribute song that is yet to be heard by fans.

The percussionist tells 93X (via Loudwire) that it's "probably" his fault the track hasn't yet seen the light of day, revealing: "There are so many songs that have never been released because they get taken up to a point, and they're doing good, but then they just sort of fall short because maybe that right brush just couldn't bring that colour yet. So we hold it back. There's tons of music.

"We have a song that we wrote for Paul Gray called Without The Gray, and it's probably my fault, but I've held it for a long time. I don't know why…"

Clown continues: "It was too close in the beginning, and it seemed like it needed to be for us more than for everyone else. And now I don't care, I want it to be for everyone else instead of us."

In the same interview, Clown also said that he hoped Slipknot's new record would be finished next month.

"We still have a lot of time to complete this. We’re hoping to be done by the end of July," he said, adding that it could be The Nine's last with longtime label Roadrunner Records: "There’s a lot of things going on. One, we’re getting off our label [after the album]. And I feel free. It’s got nothing to do with what’s next. It’s just got to do with, 'Get the hell away from me.'"
