Ex-Slayer Drummer Dave Lombardo: "Tom Araya's Wanted To Retire Since I Was In The Band"

In a recent interview, former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo says frontman Tom Araya's wanted out for a while...

Now that Slayer are preparing for their final U.S. tour, the reality of their retirement is feeling very tangible for fans. And if it's feeling real for them, one can only imagine how it's feeling for the members of the band. But according to a recent interview with former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, frontman Tom Araya has been looking forward to this day for a while.

In an interview with Dean Delray on Let There Be Talk, Dave made it clear that he's had "no communication" with the band, but that he knows Tom has wanted to leave for some time.

"Tom’s been wanting to retire when I was in the band," said Lombardo. "He wanted to stop...He had the neck issues. He’s been wanting to retire for a long time now. So now that he’s got it, I'm happy for him and I hope he gets what he wants out of life and his future.”

It should be noted that Dave's commentary is kind of sweet -- he's not calling Tom Araya out, but more saying that he's glad the guy is finally going to be able to take it easy.
