Halsey On Releasing A Punk Rock Album: "I Do Really Want To, But It Needs To Come Naturally"

A Halsey punk rock record could well be on the cards one day…

It looks like Miley Cyrus eyeing up a Metallica covers album isn't the only instance of a pop artist taking a heavier direction at the moment, as New Jersey electropop star Halsey says that she might release a punk rock album one day.

Of course, the musician has already been incredibly prevalent in the scene away from her own music, working with Machine Gun Kelly (Forget Me Too), Bring Me The Horizon (Experiment On Me, ¿), and Travis Barker and YUNGBLUD (11 Minutes) these past two years alone. And while she tells Vogue that she hopes to collaborate with Grimes and Harry Styles in the future, she also hasn't ruled out releasing a punk rock record of her own.

"I do really want to, but it needs to come naturally," she stresses. "I’ve never sat down before and been like, 'Okay, I want to make this type of album.' The album kind of makes itself. When that time comes, it’ll happen on its own. I definitely need to do it eventually, though, because I’m starting to age out of being angsty and punk."

Halsey's love for rock also seeped its way into the closing track on this year's Manic album, 929.

“That’s [the melody] like super like The Wonder Years like The Story So Far or something you know,” she told Zane Lowe. “Which is a really great way to surmise a record that was about me because that music was so instrumental to my growth as an artist as well.”
