My Chemical Romance Reunite For First Gig Since 2012

This is not a drill! New Jersey emo heroes My Chemical Romance have announced their first live performance in seven years – and it’s happening sooner than you’d expect…

Well, they didn’t keep us waiting too long, did they? Just an hour after mysteriously teasing four cryptic logos on social media, My Chemical Romance have announced that they’re going to be playing their first gig in seven years this coming December.

The New Jersey emo titans – Gerard and Mikey Way, Frank Iero and Ray Toro – will be reforming for one of the most highly-anticipated shows of all time, at the Shrine in Los Angeles on December 20 this year. Christmas come early? Absolutely.

Tickets will go on sale right here this Friday (November 1) at 12pm PST.

The last time My Chemical Romance performed live was the year before their March 2013 break-up, on May 19, 2012 in their native New Jersey. At the time, of course, it wasn’t known that the 12-song set would be their final one… up until now, that is.

The group then announced that they were calling it a day on March 23, 2013, with a statement reading:

“Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.”

It’s not clear whether or not My Chemical Romance are now reuniting for the first of many shows, or simply just a huge, epic one-off. Given their festival-headlining status before they called it a day, they could quite easily begin a world tour of arenas and stadiums after the Shrine – but that is purely just wishful thinking at this point.

It’s also currently unknown if this comeback will include new music. Gerard and Ray collaborated earlier in the year, recording a couple of cover for the Netflix adaptation of The Umbrella Academy: Hazy Shade Of Winter (Simon & Garfunkel) and Happy Together (The Turtles).

On top of that, all four members have been incredibly creative since 2013, with Gerard and Ray releasing solo albums (Hesistant Alien and Remember The Laughter, respectively), Frank unveiling three full-lengths (.stomachaches., Parachutes and this year’s Barriers), and Mikey getting his New Wave on with Electric Century (For The Night To Control).
