Watch A Young Chester Bennington Covering Nirvana

Grey Daze have shared some old footage of Chester Bennington covering Nirvana's Polly.

Given that they've spent years trawling through old recordings of Chester Bennington in order to help form their upcoming album Amends, it's no surprise that Grey Daze – Chester's first proper band – have some incredible, never-before-seen material from the late Linkin Park frontman.

Case in point: The band recently shared an awesome video of a young Chester singing along to Nirvana's Polly – and while it's not a fully-fledged cover, it's a really cool glimpse into how the star spent his days as a teen, jamming with friends to his favourite music.

Remembering Chester's first audition for what would later become Grey Daze, drummer Sean Dowdell told Kerrang! of the singer's one-of-a-kind vocals – which left such an impression on him, even in these early days: “First of all, he could scream in key. And this was before bands like System Of A Down. Chester was one of the first guys doing that.

“But he could also emulate Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, and all the bands we looked up to at the time,” he continued. “He hadn’t developed his own vocals yet, but he could emulate those styles. That was the foundation for what became Chester’s voice.”

Amends is due out on June 26 via Loma Vista Recordings, with Sean revealing of how it all came about and the desire to do justice to these songs for Chester: “Obviously, what happened, happened and Chester was tragically taken from us… About six or seven months later, I started some conversations and said, ‘I really want to finish this album.’ We’re not going to accept mediocrity, we’re going to do our friend proud, we’re going to make Chester proud and we’re going to make sure this is something he would have been elated to put out.”
