Southend hardcore band Understand have announced a new album of previously-unreleased material.

Over 20 years on from their split in 1999, the band are set to unveil Real Food At Last on April 7 via Rise Records. A collection of work written and recorded the year before they called it a day, the LP arrives now following the tragic loss of their guitarist John Hannon in 2021: “Obviously this stunned and shocked our whole camp, but it also inspired us to really make a go of this release and make it something special in John’s memory,” explains vocalist Dom Anderson.

Dom continues that, “Every decision about music, artwork, or the way the band was presented, was influenced by him, so putting this release together has been an exercise in constantly asking, ‘What would John do?’

“I think he would be proud of how it sounds, how it looks and how it represents the band and a moment in time that was the time of our lives.”
