A mysterious band called S.C.A.M. are playing two intimate shows in London this weekend, and we have a sneaking suspicion it might be Skunk Anansie.
The shows are taking place this Sunday and Monday (May 17 and 18) at The Water Rats in King’s Cross, London, with support from Grove. Tickets are on sale now - you’ll want to grab yours quick, as that venue is tiny.
King’s Cross is quite a significant area for the band given that they performed their first ever show in 1994 at The Splash Club, which was part of The Water Rats. Their first rehearsal room was also in the area and vocalist Skin described to us in a 2022 interview how she would jog there from the tube station to avoid being mugged in the days when it was far sketchier than it is now.
Skunk Anansie also performed shows under the name S.C.A.M before, most notably in 2009 when they played the Splash Club once again to announce that they were reuniting. The initials S.C.A.M stand for Skin, Cass, Ace and Mark, the members of Skunk Anansie.
Perhaps we’re wrong, and there just happens to be another band called S.C.A.M. playing this weekend. That said, the evidence looks pretty compelling if we say so ourselves.
On the off chance it’s not Skunk Anansie playing, they do have lots of shows coming up in the next few months. They headline Bearded Theory Festival in Derbyshire on May 22, have a joint UK tour with Garbage happening in June, and are also opening for My Chemical Romance and Alanis Morrissette at selected shows throughout the summer. If that wasn’t enough, they’ll also be playing shows across mainland Europe.
