Heavy Metal Campers "Rescued" At Loch Leven

A metal camping trip gone wrong!

Heavy Metal Campers "Rescued" At Loch Leven

The Courier reports that a group of friends on a “heavy metal camping trip” found themselves the subject of a huge rescue operation on a tiny historic Scottish island, following emergency calls from passers-by who feared that they had headed into the wilderness as part of a suicide pact.

The metalheads – three adults and their respective kids – sailed out to Lochleven Castle for a couple of nights under the stars in a big tent - wholesome stuff, the kind of thing Fenriz does all the time - but someone onshore called the authorities, concerned that they had gone off to the island to kill themselves.

A massive emergency response was launched, including a helicopter, a number of fire crews and boats. Police officers even smashed into the group’s car parked at the water’s edge to look for a suicide note. Once on back on the mainland, the campers were interviewed by police, who told them they were concerned about a possible kidnapping.

“For some reason the police had received a tip that we might be in grave danger and they came to rescue us,” Panadiotis Filis, a university lecturer and a founder of the Black Metal Brewery, told The Guardian. “They really did a great job of rescuing us, the only issue is that we didn’t need rescuing.”

Speaking to the Scotsman, David Henderson, a modern languages teacher and member of the black metal band Nyctopia, said: “They kind of made us feel as if we did something wrong, but we just like to go wild camping, drink beer and listen to heavy metal music.”

David said he imagined the incident had happened because the group was dressed in black and the children had face paint on. “Because we were all dressed in black and look like heavy metal fans, people sometimes assume we are dangerous,” he said.

“We received a call of concern for three men, three children and a dog on Sunday at around 7pm," a Police spokeswoman told The Courier. “Enquiries were carried out, along with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and they were all traced safe and well at around midnight’.

After these guys had their holiday ruined, the one good thing that could come of this is that we all give the Nyctopia demo a listen, wouldn't you agree?
