Former Ithaca guitarist Sam Chetan-Welsh has a new band, moksha, whose debut single Three Rivers asks: "What would you do if you knew everything was temporary? What would change?"
Former Ithaca guitarist Sam Chetan-Welsh has founded a new group named moksha, and they’ve released a gorgeous debut single named Three Rivers today.
The self-described “spiritual art-rock collective”, which features Sam on guitar and his wife Holly on vocals, bring together the usual rock instruments with some interesting touches, as they also have oboe, organ and trumpet within their music. Weaving together elements of emo and math rock with elements of gospel, neo-soul and spiritual jazz, it’s quite different from Ithaca, but it does have something of the same spirit. If your favourite Ithaca songs were You Should Have Gone Back or Hold, Be Held, you’ll definitely gel with this.
"Three Rivers takes its name from the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of three sacred rivers in India, a place where families come to immerse the ashes of loved ones and perform rituals connected with remembrance and the hope of moksha (liberation),” they say. “It asks a simple question: what would you do if you knew everything was temporary? What would change?"
