Keo have confirmed details of their long-awaited debut album Put A Smile On For Me and shared its lead single That’s Me.

Announced at an intimate underplay show at the Camden pub the Elephant’s Head last night (May 28), the album will be out via Island Records on September 25. It was recorded in a ten-day period and was self-produced by vocalist Finn Keogh and guitarist Jimmy Lanwern, emerging from a period of “personal chaos” in Finn’s life characterised by thorough self-examination and recognising aspects of himself he preferred to avoid.

“Honesty is uncomfortable,” Finn says of the album. “I don’t want to see your true colours and you don’t want to see mine. You smile, I’ll smile, everything is fine.”

On That’s Me, he explains: “The weight of a secret can sometimes be heavier than the result of people knowing it. I didn’t want to drag my guilt around any longer; I felt like I could finally let myself off the hook through writing That’s Me."

Speaking to Kerrang! earlier this year, Finn explained why he would always choose honesty in his songwriting even if involved portraying himself in an unsavory light.

“Some people’s writing is celebratory of their personalities and their experience,” he said. Some of my writing’s going so far the other way it’s becoming even more uncomfortable to listen to. But I think that's good art. It makes you feel something.”

Catch Keo at festivals across the UK this summer, including Reading and Leeds.
