Metallica Celebrate James Hetfield's Birthday With Crushing New Concert Stream

To celebrate James Hetfield's 57th birthday on August 3, Metallica turned the clock back two decades for their latest Metallica Mondays stream.

The metal titans shared a crushing concert from the Starplex Amphitheater in Dallas, Texas on August 3, 2000 (James' 37th birthday), with drummer Lars Ulrich taking to his Instagram account to state that the gig was, "Extra wet and extra sweaty that night in the hot and humid Texan summer heat. Crazy fun times."

Naturally, given the occasion, James was bombarded with cream pies onstage by the band and Metallica's crew on the night – but the stream is even more entertaining than just that moment, with a really brilliant 18-song setlist. From epic covers of songs by Bob Seger, the Misfits (twice) and Anti-Nowhere League, to a rare airing of Master Of Puppets x Welcome Home (Sanitarium) mash-up Mastertarium – which has only been played a grand total of 29 times. Excellent stuff.

If that's not enough ’Tallica goodness for you, this month the band will be releasing the highly-anticipated S&M2 via Blackened Recordings.
