Look alive, sunshine… My Chemical Romance’s fourth and final (so far…?!) album, Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, turned 10 on Sunday. As a look back, guitarist Frank Iero and bassist Mikey Way took to Instagram to share their thoughts as it hit the big one-oh.

For Mikey, his memories took the form of a shot of his iconic Killjoy jacket with the caption “Keep running”, a nod to the album.

Frank, meanwhile, was a little more verbose, saying, “Daaaaamn has it really been 10 years??!? To be honest it kinda feels more like 20… Happy Danger Day, frendz! There’s some batshit magic on this record. I remember this being a very turbulent time for us as a band and i’m extremely proud of what we accomplished together on this record. All my love to my brothers Ray Toro, Gerard Way and Mikey Way, to Doug McKean, Rob Cavallo and everyone that helped make the killjoys come to life.”

In other Frank news, he’s just announced a new EP by The Future Violents, Heaven Is A Place, This Is A Place, to be released on January 15.

“The title of the EP actually comes from the night before we started recording [2019 album] Barriers at Electrical Audio in Chicago,” he revealed. “The band went out to eat and get drinks at a local Tiki bar called, Lost Lake. On the menu that night there was a drink called Heaven is a place/This is the place. I love when the universe gives you gifts like that. You just have to be in tune to your surroundings.

“The name struck me as clever and I started to think about how changing one word in that title meant something way more profound to me,” Frank continues. “Heaven is a place, if you believe in that sort of thing… It is the reward at the end of a long hard journey of fighting the good fight and living your life to whatever standards you hold dear. But it’s just a place. And so is this… This is a place, the earthly realm, miraculous on so many levels but also just a place. The difference is you and your perception.”

Of the EP – which also features Evan Nestor (guitar/backing vocals), Matt Armstrong (bass), Tucker Rule (drums) and Kayleigh Goldsworthy (keys/mandolin/violin) – Frank confirmed that it was tracked by Steve Albini at the same time as Barriers, and then finished/mixed by Steve Evetts late this year.

“The Future Violents was the perfect band at the perfect time for me,” says Frank. “The creativity flowed through us like rapids and we didn’t stop writing because we ran out of inspiration… it was just time to go to the studio. In fact I was still writing at the studio, but I allowed myself the luxury of 14 songs on the record leaving three to survive in the shadows. Lying in wait. I knew I wanted them to see the light, it was just a matter of how and when.”
