The pop-punk stars decided to call their Paris show for the safety of fans and crew alike.

Sum 41 Cancel Paris Show After An 'Explosive Device' Was Detonated Outside The Venue

After the 2004 death of Dimebag Darrell and the 2015 terrorist attack on Le Bataclan in Paris, it's understandable that bands will go to extra measures to make sure their fans and crew remain safe. It's easy to say that music conquers all, but when lives are at stake, that argument can feel flimsy. Case in point, it's understandable that Sum 41 canceled last night's show in Paris due to an explosive device being detonated outside of the venue.

The Canadian pop-punk crew called their show at Les Etoiles in Paris, initially posting the following statement online: "During load in for tonight's performance in Paris, an explosive device was detonated just outside of the venue door. Band, crew, the fans in line are all safe, and there were no injuries. Due to the intimate nature of our 'Personal Space' performances, we are unable to guarantee the safety of the fans in attendance. We are deeply saddened to announce that tonight's show has been canceled. More information to follow."

While the band's social media accounts have since taken down this full statement, a screenshot was taken by MetalSucks:

Now, the band has instead posted a statement saying simply the following:

According to the MailOnline, the explosives in question were apparently fireworks tossed by student protesters. However, the band didn't want to take any risks given the intimate nature of their show.
