"We wanted to carve out our own piece of territory": Dead Poet Society announce new album, Monarch, and drop dramatic new single Cold

Dead Poet Society have announced their new album, Monarch, and shared a new single titled Cold.

Produced by Paul Meany, the Boston alt. rockers’ third album will drop on October 2 via Spinefarm and also features their recent single Roach.

“We wanted to carve out our own piece of territory. I just wanted to swing for the fences with this one,” says vocalist and guitarist Jack Underkofler. “All the things I felt made us, I wanted to see how much deeper I could go with them and try to boil down the essence of the feeling that makes Dead Poet Society who we are.”

On new single Cold, drummer Will Goodroad adds: “People today are constantly performing for one another, competing for a place in social hierarchy. We slowly reshape ourselves, cutting away parts of who we are to gain acceptance and validation. Over time, we lose touch with our passions, forget why we do what we do, and stop recognizing who we really are – or what we truly believe, if anything at all. Cold is about recognizing that reality and choosing to indulge in it anyway.”

Meanwhile, the video for Cold captures a woman struggling with extreme dissociation. Check it out below:

Dead Poet Society are also deepening the world of the album with an interactive site called The House, where fans can dig around for clues as to what will come next.
