Techy Italian metallers Prospective have skill but few tunes on debut album All We Have

On the strength of this debut album, Italian metalcore outfit Prospective show they can chug a good, techy riff. However, listening to these 10 tracks it soon becomes clear that they’re no trailblazers. But if all the tropes and touches you might expect from a metalcore band have been ticked off and nailed down, what this Bologna quintet lack in mould-breaking innovation they more than make up for in enthusiastic execution.

Against All Odds and Battlefield showcase a band cognisant with structure, given how expertly they ebb and flow, build and sustain. And while there’s something more student than teacher about these efforts, the brilliance of the performances – particularly vocalist Pietro Serratore and guitarist Luca Zini, whose voices meld most effectively on Disobey – suggest that with an injection of innovation, the future could be bright for this lot. Right now, though, their obvious talents haven’t quite found the outlet they deserve.

Verdict: 2/5
