Amon Amarth reveal details of new album The Allfather Awakens and new single Gjallarhorn

Amon Amarth have announced a new album, The Allfather Awakens, and shared another single in the form of Gjallarhorn.

Its title nods to the Norse “all father” Oden, the deity of a deity of war, wisdom, death, magic, and poetry who has offered a thematic throughline in all of Amon Amarth’s albums. According to a press release, it’s not a concept album, but rather “a collection of historically inspired epic tales of conflict and sacrifice for a greater good.”

Amon Amarth’s 13th album will arrive on October 2 via Metal Blade Records. It also marks a change to the band’s songwriting, creating it across two recording sessions, in spring 2025 and spring 2026, at producer Jacob Hansen’s studio in Denmark. The other difference is that these new songs were written while touring and crafted one by one.

“We worked on one song at a time and made each song as good as possible,” says guitarist Olavi Mikkonen. “Then we recorded one song at a time until each track was totally finished--drums, guitars, and vocals. Only then did we start on the next one.”

Their recently released acoustic-leaning number Upphaf will appear on the tracklist, but new single Gjallarhorn is a return to their classic heavy sound. Check it out below.
