An Iron Maiden Concert May Displace The Biggest Football Game In South America

The band's upcoming performance in Santiago, Chile, may cause issues for the upcoming Copa Libertadores.

An Iron Maiden Concert May Displace The Biggest Football Game In South America

If there was one thing that South Americans love more than soccer, it would be Iron Maiden. The band's massive sold-out performances in cities like Rio are the stuff of legends. That said, one would assume that not even Maiden could displace the biggest soccer match in South America...but it's looking like it might happen.

According to recent reports, the final of this autumn's Copa Libertadores -- the biggest tournament in South American football -- might have to change venues due to an Iron Maiden concert.

According to podcaster Adam Brandon, and confirmed by ADN 91.7, CONMEBOL asked that no concerts or events be held in the Estadio Nacional in Santiago for 60 days before the event...during which period is Maiden's October 15th show in Santiago in the same venue.

Apparently, other venues are already being examined, including those in Argentina and outside of South America.

Whether Maiden will offer to change the venue is anyone's guess, but given the band's legacy, they could probably refuse to budge and win that particular game of chicken.
