The gothic rocker will be releasing her seventh full length record, Birth of Violence.
Beloved gothic singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe has just announced her seventh full length project, Birth of Violence, due out on September 13th via Sargent House. Along with this announcement comes the release of the record's lead single, The Mother Road.
Unlike the album’s title may suggest, Chelsea Wolfe appears to be moving away from the brooding, sludgy doom metal sound established on her last two records in favor of a return to form. The Mother Road is a minimalist acoustic folk track with orchestral accompaniment that further enhances its dark vibe. Chelsea's vocals and lyrics even have much more of the gothy folk style that brought her into the limelight in the first place, with lines like, "I want to learn to swallow my pain / hallowed the fruit, hallowed thy name," and, “Afraid to live, afraid to die / building a broken but precious web like a spider in Chernobyl.” The song doesn’t get heavier, but the emotion is as deep as Wolfe has ever put on record.
Paired with her acoustic album is an entirely acoustic North American tour, allowing those who’ve gotten into Chelsea more recently to finally experience her roots as a folkier artist. Check out the song, tour dates, and album artwork below:
