Few musicians have helped shape the face of modern metal and hardcore quite like Kurt Ballou. As the guitarist for Converge, Kurt showed the world just how exciting, frenetic, and emotionally powerful extreme music could be; as a producer at his own studio, GodCity Studio, he has helped provide unique production sounds to clients including High On Fire, Nails, Kvelertak, All Pigs Must Die, and more.

In our first ever episode of Mixing Masters, a partnership with Unstoppable Recording Machine's Nail The Mix, Kurt sits down and discusses why he started GodCity, how he gets the sound he wants out of bands, and the key to recording great vocals. It's an interesting look both into Kurt's recording methods, but also his professional mindset as a musician, a producer, and even as a fan.
