Having covered the song live many times in the past, Taking Back Sunday have just unveiled an official studio version of Weezer's My Name Is Jonas.

The Long Island emo rock heroes have kept their version of the 1994 Blue Album classic pretty faithful (and even emulated that iconic LP artwork), though it still undoubtedly has that TBS feel to it. Unsurprisingly it all works wonderfully well, with frontman Adam Lazzara using his pipes effectively and not simply just trying to copy Rivers Cuomo.

Speaking to Consequence about the cover, bassist Shaun Cooper explained, "In 2019 we were on tour… a lot! Over time soundcheck got pretty laborious. One day before a show in Cincinnati, OH somebody started playing the opening chords to My Name Is Jonas…

"We all grew up listening to Weezer. Playing this song together was so much fun and broke up the monotony of day to day touring life. We started adding the song to our setlist and recorded it on a day off in Buffalo NY. We love this song and we hope our rendition does it justice."

Interestingly, according to setlist.fm, My Name Is Jonas has been covered a whoooole bunch live by other artists – from Good Charlotte to AFI – so it's clearly a favoured choice. And Weezer are, of course, no strangers to a good cover song themselves either; most recently, they performed Sugar, We’re Goin Down on the Hella Mega Tour, as Fall Out Boy had to miss several of those shows.
