Listen To A Gorgeously Goth-Kissed New Chelsea Wolfe Song

The haunting Offering precedes the release of Californian singer’s new LP, Hiss Spun, featuring members of Queens Of The Stone Age and ISIS.

Listen To A Gorgeously Goth-Kissed New Chelsea Wolfe Song

On September 22, cult Californian singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe releases her sixth album, Hiss Spun, via Sargent House. The set features guest appearances from Queens Of The Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen and Aaron Turner, known to metalheads everywhere as a member of ISIS, Old Man Gloom and Sumac (to name just three of his projects).

Wolfe’s just released the final preview for her new record – and it’s a slice of pure disquieting brilliance, all goth-kissed and blackened at its edges, while its heart swims in waters of purest pop immediacy. And those vocals, uh. How they hook into the skin, barbed and beautiful, never letting go.

Get Offering into your ears, below.

Offering follows another preview of what’s to come, the dramatic and deliciously dark noise of 16 Psyche. Hiss Spun is the follow-up to 2015’s electric, enveloping Abyss LP – which you can listen to at the bottom of this article (and you really, really should).

While firmly an underground artist, Wolfe’s music has featured on shows such as Game Of Thrones and Fear The Walking Dead, in case you’re recognising those vocals of hers from somewhere, but not quite placing them.

Hiss Spun was recorded by Converge’s Kurt Ballou in Salem, and of the release, Wolfe says:

“I wanted to write some sort of escapist music; songs that were just about being in your body, and getting free. You’re just bombarded with constant bad news, people getting fucked over and killed for shitty reasons or for no reason at all, and it seems like the world has been in tears for months, and then you remember it’s been fucked for a long time, it’s been fucked since the beginning. It’s overwhelming and I have to write about it.”
