Margot Robbie Has Confirmed That Jared Leto's Joker Will Not Be In Birds Of Prey

In the run-up to the release of the new Birds Of Prey film (due out on February 7), there were many questions regarding the involvement of Hollywood superstar Jared Leto, who played the Joker in the movie's 2016 predecessor, Suicide Squad. Now, however, Margot Robbie has cleared up any speculation.

The Australian actor, who plays Harley Quinn in the new DC Comics effort, has confirmed that the Thirty Seconds To Mars frontman will not be appearing in the new superhero flick – full title: Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) – despite the storyline beginning just after her break-up with the Joker.

According to Variety, Jared's incarnation of the villain "doesn’t appear, not even as a cameo", which of course contradicts alleged leaked set photos that seemed to show a scene of Harley and Joker possibly arguing and breaking up.

In a recent interview with Empire, meanwhile, Margot said that in Birds Of Prey, her character is now just trying to get on with things as a single person.

“She’s trying to own it,” she revealed. “That felt like a real way to deal with a break-up. It’s not clean and easy to be a strong woman. It’s so hard. She’s a bit more Courtney Love than Debbie Harry this time. She says, ‘I’m single, I don’t need him, fuck that guy.’ But if the Joker were to text her, ‘You up?’ she’d run. She’d fall to pieces.”

While Jared has seemingly no involvement here, last year the actor and musician began filming for Spider-Man spin-off film Morbius, in which he plays ‘The Living Vampire’ – a vampire who also happens to be a hero. It is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on July 31, 2020.
