Mastodon’s new era’s just been kicked into another gear with the release of their new single Snakes For Dinner, featuring Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme, and the announcement of new album Marrow Deep.
The band had mentioned a new album was coming when they returned with new single Your Ghost Again recently, but have now sketched out more details. The follow-up to 2021’s Hushed And Grim will arrive on August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings and is the first album to feature guitarist Nick Johnston alongside significant contributions from keyboardist João Nogueira.
“Bill, Brann, and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this, and we've got other members who are just over the moon to be in the band with us,” says Troy Sanders. “That's a magical feeling that makes us keep wanting to go to band practice. It’s reminiscent of the very beginning of our band, where all members are hungry, we're united, and excited to get to work. And we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to do this record.”
Marrow Deep’s main source of inspiration was the Three Fates of Greek mythology, who determine the life and fate of every mortal being on earth through a fragile thread which, when cut, brings about death. It was co-produced by Mastodon alongside Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou of Converge and High On Fire fame.
New single Snakes For Dinner marks a reunion with Josh Homme, who Mastodon first collaborated with on their 2006 song Colony of Birdmen. According to a press release, there’s an exciting line-up of other guests on the album which will be revealed soon.
