Nine Inch Nails drop 20-song TRON: Ares companion album

Nine Inch Nails have unveiled a full 20-song TRON: Ares companion album.

Entitled TRON Ares: Divergence, the record hears Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross offer up some previously-unheard material from their TRON: Ares soundtrack, as well as remixes by the likes of ARCA, Mark Pritchard, Boys Noize, Lanark Artefax, Chilly Gonzales, Danny L Harle and more.

Earlier this month, NIN picked up the 2026 GRAMMY for Best Rock Song for As Alive As You Need Me to Be. In our 5/5 review of the TRON: Ares soundtrack, we noted that, “Lead single As Alive As You Need Me To Be – one of four songs to feature Trent’s singing – served as a brilliant declaration of intent. A world apart from where NIN left off with 2020’s Ghosts VI: Locusts instrumental record and, say, the gorgeous orchestration of 2024’s Queer soundtrack, it is a digital firestorm of a song. Equally impressive is just how easily its lyrics dialling into TRON: Ares’ plot strands concerning artificial life fit into the wider NIN canon of alienation.”

In other news, Trent confirmed in December that he and Atticus were hoping to keep the creative NIN momentum going at the moment: “We are working on new stuff and we’re excited to work on it, and we are prioritising working on Nine Inch Nails over just taking on every single thing that comes up in the other category,” he said. “So, beyond that, I can’t say much, but the difference between now and a year ago is the fuse has been lit and the desire is there.”
