Genre-blurring alt superstar Poppy made an even bigger name for herself in 2020 with killer album I Disagree, a surprise Christmas EP and even a Kerrang! cover debut – and she plans to continue this sky-high trajectory in 2021 with more new music and touring plans (as long as shows resume, that is).

Speaking to Kerrang! about her New Year's Resolution, Poppy reveals of her ambitions for 2021: "Just to release more music and remodel my house. They’re both equally important (laughs). There are many plans for music that will be revealed soon."

When asked about this new material, she teases, "You’ve got to wait and see, I don’t want to throw too much out there up front of it because it’s going to be a wonderful thing that’s very exciting.

"Another plan for 2021, pending the opening of the countries, I’d like to get back to touring and playing shows, but until then I do have some virtual shows being planned."

Reflecting on I Disagree and how it came from a place of negativity, Poppy reveals of its follow-up, “I still disagree with a lot of things that are happening in the world, but in myself, I feel in a much brighter headspace. I finished writing a new album, so that’s a very positive thing that happened [in 2020], and I probably wouldn’t have had the time to do that if the world didn’t shut down, so I’m thankful for that.”

When asked about the more metal side of her music and if that will be an influence this time around, too, she adds: “I’d say yes to that. Though the new album that I’ve made is going to be left open to interpretation by the listener, I would say that it still has the influence of heavy music.”
