With Måneskin pulling out of Reading & Leeds last week because of “unforeseen scheduling conflicts”, the festival have today (August 15) posted an official statement on the situation, sharing their disappointment.

Reading & Leeds state on their website that the Italian rockers – along with Louisville rapper Jack Harlow – have both cancelled so they can “perform at an award show the same weekend”, with the awards show in question seemingly being the MTV VMAs, which is happening on Sunday, August 28 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. (Måneskin and Jack Harlow are both confirmed as performers there, as well as Panic! At The Disco, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj and more.)

“We are saddened to hear that Jack Harlow and Måneskin have decided to perform at an award show the same weekend they were confirmed to play Reading & Leeds,” reads the statement from the fest.

“We are working on some exciting replacements to join Arctic Monkeys, Dave, Bring Me The Horizon, The 1975, Halsey, Megan Thee Stallion, D-Block Europe, PinkPantheress, Joy Crookes, Fontaines DC, Bastille, WILLOW, Wolf Alice, Glass Animals, Hybrid Minds and many others at Reading & Leeds Festivals this August Bank Holiday weekend, watch this space!”

On Friday, following Rage Against The Machine also pulled out of this month’s Reading & Leeds, the festival confirmed that they would be replaced by alt. pop-rock stars The 1975.
