Taylor Momsen: "I Said I'd Never Act Again, But I've Gotten Older Now, And Who Knows?"

Though Taylor Momsen's focus right now is undeniably on all things The Pretty Reckless and their upcoming fourth album Death By Rock And Roll, the vocalist says that she could return to acting one day – but it's not something that she's actively pursuing".

Taylor had given up her Hollywood life all the way back in 2011 ("I quit Gossip Girl and now tour and am in a band and that’s pretty much all I want to do. Hopefully I’ll be able to only do that for the rest of my life," she told Elle at the time), but almost 10 years on, her attitude is now seemingly, "Never say never."

When asked on Rock 102.1 KFMA if she ever thinks about going back to acting, Taylor responds, "Rock'n'roll is forever a mainstay. I will never not play rock'n'roll music. I'm gonna be playing rock'n'roll music till I'm dead.

"For a long time, I said I'd never act again, but I've gotten older now, and who knows? It's not something I'm actively pursuing in any way but never say never, I guess."

The sentiment of music taking precedence over everything else is something that Taylor also echoed in a recent interview with Kerrang!.

“If I’m going to be famous, I want to be famous for the music that I make,” she said. “I want be famous for something that I’ve worked really hard to create. I don’t want to be famous for the sake of being famous. I want the songs to be more famous than me. I want people to recognise the song without necessarily knowing that it’s even sung by me. My goal is not to be famous as myself, but to have the songs live on through time.”

Recently, Taylor revealed that Death By Rock And Roll will feature some pretty extraordinary rock guests: Soundgarden’s Matt Cameron and Kim Thayil, and Rage Against The Machine guitar hero Tom Morello.

“We recorded that in Seattle at London Bridge Studios, and it was just an awesome experience to get to actually spend some time in Seattle,” she said. “Every time we’re on tour, we’re in and out so fast, it was really good to kind of experience the city for all that it is and all that history and record at such an iconic studio. I mean, Pearl Jam’s Ten [was recorded] there, and Louder Than Love by Soundgarden. And then to be there with Soundgarden, it was pretty surreal.”

Of a potential release date for the record, Taylor admitted, “I don’t know the answer, ’cause everything’s still in kind of limbo right now just, obviously, with the pandemic and very unprecedented times. So we’re not exactly sure. But I do know that we’re gonna be putting out more songs and stuff, and more material before the full album. So this isn’t just a quick little flash in the pan and we’re going away. We’re back.”
