Corey Taylor: Slipknot’s Unreleased 2008 Album Has “More Of A Radiohead Vibe”

According to frontman Corey Taylor, the band’s unreleased 2008 album isn’t what you’d expect.

Even as their 2008 album All Hope Is Gone turns 11 today, Iowan metal behemoth Slipknot are teasing the 11 unreleased tracks recorded during their 2008 studio sessions. Last week, Clown said the songs will see the light of day during the album cycle of their current release We Are Not Your Kind. Now, frontman Corey Taylor has said that the much-discussed tracks are very different from what Slipknot fans might expect — and that they even have “more of a Radiohead vibe.”

Speaking to Sirius XM’s Trunk Nation, Taylor discussed the album, titled Look Outside Your Window, saying, “We’ve been trying to find a way to release those songs for God knows how long…The stuff from Look Outside Your Window is really, really — I mean, there’s no real way to describe it. It’s experimental, but it’s super vibey, super melodic. It’s really good. It’s hard to explain.

There’s something about those songs,” he continued. “They’re very solemn, very energetic, very artistic. For people who are used to a certain way of Slipknot sounding, this doesn’t sound anything like that. It’s much more of a rock vibe. Honestly, it’s much more of a Radiohead vibe, to be honest.”

In an exclusive interview with Kerrang! last year, Clown basically agreed with Corey’s descriptions, saying, “The truth is: while we were making that album, Jim and I — who were the only two out of all nine original members who came to the studio — were there every day, from the beginning to the end…And then Corey and Sid became a part of it, and all four of us became a part of it — it wasn’t just any one person’s. It became ours. And because of that, we played it for a lot of people, and we said, ‘What do you think?’ And these people would always say, ‘It’s not Slipknot.’”
