Creepsylvanian Cannibal Thrashers Ghoul have Announced A Horror Comic Book

Oakland thrash metallers Ghoul have announced they’re turning themselves into a comic book. Not literally, obviously--that would be ridiculous even by their standards--but the self-styled “cannibal splatterthrashers” are making a 24-page horror comic book called Ghoul: Born To Kill that features stories from their not at all made up home country of Creepsylvania.

In addition to tales about the band themselves, the comic book features regular characters from their stage show as well as some other Creepsylvanian murders, mutants and monsters. It was all written and drawn by Ross Sewage, who also happens to be the bass player for death metal bands Exhumed and Impaled.

"I love Ghoul’s music and I love their very real, very true backstory," said Sewage in a statement about the comic book. "I thought comic books would be a great medium to get more tales from Creepsylvania into the hands of their rabid fans. Kickstarter seemed like the perfect place to let those rabid fans take part in bringing it to life. If this goes well, hopefully there'll be more to come!"

"Ross who?" said Cremator of Ghoul in the same statement. “Oh yeah, that guy who got me super drunk that one night. He pumped me for some stories about home. I guess he drew a comic book or something.”

Ghoul, who formed in 2001 and who have released five full-length albums since, have launched a Kickstarter campaign for the comic book which features some of the most inventively-titled tiers we’ve ever seen. The comic itself will have a color cover and 24 black and white pages inside, all of which serves as an homage to classic EC and Warren horror comics. The band’s last album, the phenomenally-titled Dungeon Bastards, was released in 2016, so we’re hoping that in addition to the comic, there’s some new music on the way soon, too.
