Netflix Have Cancelled The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

After the release of its fourth season in fall 2020, supernatural horror show the Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina won't be coming back.

As of July 8 Netflix have cancelled the Archie-verse programme, with showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa stating, “Working on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been an incredible honor from day one. The cast, beginning with Kiernan [Shipka] as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy.

“I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show. I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see part four.”

Speaking of which, the final episodes of Sabrina will reportedly see “The Eldritch Terrors descend upon Greendale”, with Netflix teasing: “The coven must fight each terrifying threat one-by-one (The Weird, The Returned, The Darkness to name a few), all leading up to… The Void, which is the End of All Things.

“As the witches wage war, with the help of The Fright Club, Nick begins to slowly earn his way back into Sabrina's heart, but will it be too late?”

Ooooh…

Following the news of its cancellation, Roberto also hinted that a long-awaited crossover between Sabrina and Archie Comics teen drama Riverdale would have happened in season five, writing on Instagram: “Thank you for all the love, #sabrinanetflix fans. Part Four is our best yet and Part Five, Witch War, would’ve been amazing. To be continued in the pages of [Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina] comic book…”

Earlier this week, fellow Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene was cancelled at The CW.

In other Netflix news, the trailer for season 2 of The Umbrella Academy dropped earlier in the week, and it features a brand-new song from creator Gerard Way.

“I was originally inspired to write this track when series one of The Umbrella Academy was being shot; by the time I finished it 2020 was in full swing, the world had taken a profound turn and the song was finished in a surreal new reality,” he explained.

The Umbrella Academy season 2 will launch on July 31 – check out the new trailer below:
