Oli Sykes: How Bring Me The Horizon put elephant sounds into a song
Quite frankly, Bring Me The Horizon are killing it on TikTok at the moment: following on from Jordan Fish’s recent quickfire making-of video for viral hit Can You Feel My Heart, Oli Sykes has thrown things forward to a 2020 Horizon song – and revealed that the band incorporated some pretty… wild stuff in it.
Never shy when it comes to experimenting in the studio, the frontman has shared that the band sneaked the sound of an elephant’s trumpet into Post Human: Survival Horror mega-single Teardrops… which we absolutely did not notice at the time (but, equally, aren’t surprised about in the slightest).
In a video explaining how they did it, Oli jokes, “Yo, have you ever wondered how to get elephant sounds into a song?”
“First: you gotta find the perfect elephant sound,” he continues. “Then you’ve gotta spend half an hour convincing the band it’s a good idea. Once you’ve done that, just fuck with the pitch a little, maybe add some reverb and… voila! Elephant mosh!”
At the time of release, Oli called Teadrops his “favourite song off the record”, explaining, “I’m so excited to get this single out, it feels like a classic Bring Me The Horizon tune but without it feeling like anything we’ve done before. I feel like Teardrops is some of the best work we’ve ever done, musically and lyrically as whole.”

In the past decade, streaming has become synonymous with music fandom and consumption. But commercially it’s still an unequal playing field, to the detriment of our favourite rock bands…
“From choirboy to rock’n’roll singer…” AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson will be releasing his memoirs later this year.
