Reading councillor says nothing has been agreed” regarding August 2021 festival

While Reading & Leeds has pretty much entirely sold out already, a Reading councillor has warned that it has not yet been confirmed that the August festival will go ahead.

According to The Reading Chronicle, a town councillor has stated that nothing has been agreed” with that this summer’s Reading Festival will go ahead.

While Reading has already sold out (and Leeds has only a few options left) following tickets being put on sale last week, councillor Graeme Hoskin has warned that the Berkshire event has not yet been approved by the council.

What’s become apparent from comments on social media and people contacting the council is that some people are under the impression that the council has approved Reading Festival taking place this summer,” Graeme said at Reading’s COVID-19 Outbreak Engagement Board meeting on February 26.

That is not the case. Reading has not, and nor has anyone else, agreed anything.

But, certainly, the announcement is the intention of Reading Festival to happen,” he added. That is going to be a major item for our licensing department and various other national bodies to consider but nothing has been agreed by the council.”

Festival Republic director Melvin Benn told The Guardian last week, We’re enthusiastic, we’re excited, and we’re certain that it’s going to go ahead.”

So far, the Reading & Leeds 2021 line-up features six headliners: Stormzy, Catfish And The Bottlemen, Post Malone, Disclosure, Liam Gallagher and Queens Of The Stone Age. Elsewhere on the bill, the likes of Gallows, Nova Twins, Hot Milk, FEVER 333, Neck Deep and YUNGBLUD have all been confirmed to appear across the weekend.
