Skeletonwitch Announce First Album in Five Years, Unveil First Single

They’re baaaaaaaaaack.

Rejoice, Skeletonwitchies (Is that what fans of the band are called? If not — they should be)! The lead single from Skeletonwitch’s first full-length album in five years has arrived.

And it is… awesome.

Fen Of Shadows is the blackened opening track on the genre-bending metal band’s upcoming Devouring Radiant Light, due out July 20 on Prosthetic Records.

Recorded by Converge guitarist and engineering deity Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studio in Salem, MA, the album embraces uncharted creative territory with more elaborate arrangements, layered guitar, and sonic dynamics than ever before. Serious black metal vibes take precedence, with the band showcasing a darker, more ominous sound that relies less on NWOBHM and thrash influences than previous efforts.

Most notable of all is the debut of new vocalist Adam Clemans, who notes that the song Fen Of Shadows lyrically sets up the theme for the entire record. It’s of my belief that in times of turmoil and darkness, we as humans, learn the most about our true selves. If you look within, you will always find light, passion and dedication. To what exactly, is up to the individual. For us, it’s creating music together and as individuals.“

If that’s gotten you sufficiently riled up, you can pre-order the album here.

And don’t forget to see the band on tour with Pallbearer and Obituary in North America, before they hop over to Europe for a series of headlining shows:
