Tool Drummer Reveals New Album To Be Released in April

Fans and rock publications alike have been closely tracking the progress of Tool's highly anticipated fifth album. (It's already made our list of 11 Albums To Be Excited About in 2019.) Last we checked in earlier this month, vocalist Maynard James Keenan had revealed via Twitter that the band had finished tracking all instruments and vocals, and were in the deep in the throes of post-production.

But yesterday at NAMM's annual convention in Anaheim, CA, drummer Danny Carey went one step further by revealing the planned release month for the forthcoming album. YouTuber Dirk Doucette approached the sticksman during what appears to be a meet-and-greet at the convention, and asked if he had any news about the big record. Danny quite casually replied, "Yeah, it should be out mid-April," before adding an asterisk: "That's the plan, anyway." Classic Tool.

It's not entirely clear if Danny knew he was being filmed. Perhaps he wouldn't have been so forthcoming if he did? Regardless, while we're hoping this seemingly off-hand claim is true, we won't be shocked if the release gets pushed back beyond April. What's a few more months when we've already waited 13 years?

Check out the interaction in the video below:

In the meantime, let's jam on the first four releases and think about the 6 things we want from the new Tool album. (Let us know on Twitter if you agree with our wishes.)
