Danzig’s Elvis Covers Album Gets Official Release Date

Danzig has finally announced the release date for his long-awaited Elvis covers album.

Danzig’s Elvis Covers Album Gets Official Release Date

Back in 2014, Misfits frontman Glenn Danzig announced a covers EP, but not just any set of covers -- he revealed that he would be covering a collection of songs by the King himself, Elvis Presley. The EP was supposed to come out last year, but was pushed back to this spring. Fans speculated that the EP had turned into his 2015 covers album Skeletons, but now it’s clear that the Elvis covers project lives on.

Danzig has announced that the record, now a full album titled Danzig Sings Elvis, will be released on April 17. Evil Elvis will be playing two shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco in support of the album at the end of April, with the dates being announced next week:

Danzig Sings Elvis is available for preorder.

For posterity's sake, here’s a Facebook post from when Danzig announced the project on the anniversary of Elvis’ death in 2014:

In 2015, Danzig gave Rolling Stone an update and described the influence Elvis had on him.

“Elvis is actually kind of how I got into music,” he said. “When I was a kid, I was cutting school pretending I was sick and I would lie at home watching old movies, and Jailhouse Rock came on with Elvis. I was like, ‘I want to do this. This is great.’ And that’s how I veered to music.”

“I’m stripping some of the stuff down to the bare bones, very old-school Fifties echoey slap-back vocals,” he said. “Every time I go back into the studio to work on a new Danzig record, if we have time, I’m like, ‘Let’s do another Elvis song.’ So I keep adding and we’ll see what ends up on the record.”

This isn’t Danzig’s first time covering Elvis. Danzig's 2015 covers album Skeletons featured a cover of Elvis’ Let Yourself Go. They also covered Elvis’ Trouble back on their 1993 EP Thrall-Demonsweatlive.

Danzig will be performing at Psycho Las Vegas, which takes place August 14 - 16 at the Mandalay Bay Resort, along with Mercyful Fate, Poison the Well, The Flaming Lips and others. Danzig will be playing Danzig II: Lucifuge in its entirety.
