Deftones Have Confirmed The Producer Of Their New Album

Legendary producer Terry Date is once again joining forces with Deftones for the follow-up to 2016's Gore.

Deftones Have Confirmed The Producer Of Their New Album

According to their Instagram, Deftones are returning to work with producer Terry Date on their upcoming new album.

While we await more concrete details on the band's highly-anticipated follow-up to 2016's Gore, keyboardist/sampler Frank Delgado has uploaded a previously unseen photo to the alt-metal titans' social media of Terry Date and frontman Chino Moreno in the studio, dating it back to May 25 last year. Given that Terry has previously worked on the likes of 1997's Around The Fur and 2000's White Pony (not to mention albums and songs by Slipknot, Bring Me The Horizon, Limp Bizkit and Slayer) this is very, very exciting indeed.

The news follows a fresh interview with Abe Cunningham on Mixdown, with the drummer stating that album number nine is tentatively due in the second half of 2020.

“We did things a little bit differently this time," he reveals of their recording process. "We stretched everything out over the course of a couple of years, rather than blasting through in one go. The process has been mixed with about a year-long break, that we all agreed upon. Being rested and taking that time off really made us appreciate what we're doing even more. When we're all laughing and smiling and coming up with stuff together, just like when we were 17… it's a beautiful thing.”

Late last year, Chino had admitted that he was "hoping" the record would be out "earlier on" in 2020, but there was no definite answer at that point.

“Our biggest thing is making sure that it’s good," he said. "We’ll be performing it, once it’s out, for the next two or three years, so we want to be sure it’s the best it can be and want to make everyone happy – including ourselves.”

Just like Abe, the frontman also praised how the band approached the recording of the LP: “We’re not doing that thing where we go in and lock ourselves in a room until it’s done; we are kind of enjoying our time making it. It’s been a cool process, we get together, we work for a couple weeks, whether that’s just making noise and coming up with ideas and then everybody just goes home and comes back to work on ’em a little bit more. So, we’ve been doing that for a little over a year or so.

“[Last] summer, we actually went into the studio and recorded an album’s worth of music. So, the music was pretty much done and the last few months have sort of just been working on the lyrics and the melodies and the singing parts. So that’s pretty much where we’re at right now.”

Can't wait. Check out Terry Date and Chino in the studio together below:
