“I had a little shoplifting phase in high school”: 13 Questions with Maggie Lindemann

You might know Maggie Lindemann as an alt.pop superstar with millions of TikTok followers, but did you know that she hates both the DMV and her first name? Here the Texan singer-songwriter faces Kerrang!'s 13 Questions and reveals her thoughts on the supernatural, being a vet and the taste of medicine.

1If you had the power to turn the internet off, would you do it?

“No. It’s a love/hate relationship, but I use the internet for a lot of stuff (laughs). My life would be way harder if I didn’t have the internet.”

2What is the most disgusting thing you’ve ever eaten?

“The first thing that comes to mind is when I was little, I used to have to crush up my medicine to take it – I couldn’t just do it. One time by babysitter had to put crushed up pills into a chocolate milk and it was the nastiest thing I’ve ever had in my life, I threw up and everything. I was like six years old or something and I distinctly remember it. It was disgusting.”

3Where is the best place you’ve ever been?

“Jamaica. I love Jamaica. It was beautiful, the beach was beautiful, I really liked it and it was a lot of fun. I went with my friend and her family and it was really cool.”

4What is the most illegal thing you’ve ever done?

“I don’t know, I guess the normal illegal stuff (laughs). Maybe shoplifting when I was 14; there was a little phase of that in high school for some reason. Everyone steals, c’mon!”

5What is your party trick?

“I’m really good at Guitar Hero; Barracuda [by Heart] is my song of choice. Me and my boyfriend just got it so we play it all the time, I love it, it’s so fun. It’s a little easier for me as a musician because of the finger movements, our friends struggle with the pinky!”

6Why should people listen to your music?

“I’m not going to force you, but people should listen to it because it’s fun and there’s a lot of different genres put together. It’s my music so I like it, obviously, but it’s just fun… and it’s depressing!”

7What would you want written on your tombstone?

“Just my name. Not my real name but my nickname, I wouldn’t want Margaret written on it. I don’t like my name, so it’d just say ‘Maggie’ and nothing else (laughs). My parents called me Maggie when I was little, never Margaret, even when I was in trouble. I never get called my real name or my middle name ever.”

8If your house was on fire, what one thing would you save?

“Probably my purse because it has all my stuff in it! I wouldn’t want to go to the DMV and have to redo it all. I don’t think I have anything else [worth saving], maybe my jewellery, but everything is replaceable. I’m already having to deal with my house being burned down, I don’t want to go to the DMV (laughs).”

9What is the worst job you’ve ever had?

“I’ve actually only had this job. I did used to babysit, but I really enjoyed it, so I’m pretty lucky!”

10Have you ever been in a fight?

“I have not. I don’t actually think I’d be able to fight. I don’t think I’d win, so I’ll stay away from that.”

11Have you ever seen a ghost?

“I think I’ve experienced ghosts, but I haven’t seen one. I’ve had weird stuff happen, haunted stuff. I believe in the supernatural though; I think I’d be scared of a ghost if I saw one.”

12Who is the most famous person in your contact list?

“I guess my boyfriend [NBA star Jordan Clarkson]. He’s the most famous person to me.”

13What did you want to be when you grew up?

“I wanted to be a veterinarian; I feel like every little kid goes through that ‘I love animals’ phase, but then I realised it’s not that cute. I always wanted to be a singer, though, and then I started putting out songs and performing!”
