Shields have announced that they are breaking up for a second time.

The band first split up in 2018 after the death of guitarist George Christie but reunited in 2023 and went on to release a new album, Death And Connection, in January of this year.

However, less than a year later, they have confirmed that the band has reached a natural end and their last show will be taking place on August 14 when they headline Sanctum Fest in Birmingham.

“Shields is a band that came to an abrupt end in 2018, for reasons many of you know,” begins their statement on Instagram.

“In 2023, we decided to pick it up again and see how it felt.

“We played shows, got excited, wrote and released an album that we are immensely proud of.

“Since becoming more active again, our priorities have become clearer, and we feel we have fully expressed ourselves. We feel that we can leave Shields where it is now, on our own terms. We all have our own feelings about this band ending, but what is clear is that we all want the best for each other and will always remain close friends.

“A huge thank you to Alastair and Krish, our drummer and bassist. Two immensely talented guys who Shields would not have returned without!

“Keep an eye out for whatever we might be doing next on our own paths, and thank you to everyone who has supported us, come to see us live, bought merch, and listened to our music. No band can exist without those who give it their time and energy.

“We have one final show left. We are headlining Sanctum Fest in Birmingham on 14 August.

“We will be playing a mixture of new songs and old.

“Last show. LFG.

“With love,

“Joe, Sam, Ali & Krish.”
