Slayer Have Filed Suit Against An Icelandic Music Festival

Any promoter, events organizer, or metal fan can tell you that if you want to book Slayer, you've got to pay big bucks to do so. But now the most evil band in the Big 4 are now suing the Secret Solstice Festival, an Icelandic festival who they claim owes them a whopping $134,000 USD.

According to Icelandic news site RÚV, Slayer's lawyer claims they haven't been paid what was owed to them for their performance in Reykjavik, Iceland, last June. They also claim that 20% of Slayer's income from the appearance was retained by the organizers for "tax purposes." Apparently, they aren't the only ones who are upset, either -- the festival, whose line-up also contained Gucci Mane and Bonnie Tyler, has had similar claims by other professionals lodged against it.

The issue will be brought before the Reykjavik city council, as the city itself is involved in the festival.

Discussing Slayer’s varied and elaborate merch over the years, frontman Tom Araya said, “Slayer has a lot of cool shit, and believe it or not, that’s something that I wanted to do, I wanted the band to be involved in or to have more of a product line.

“The very first offer we had was Vans,” he continues. “They reached out to us and said, ‘Hey, we want to do a Slayer Vans shoe. And we said, ‘Cool.’ They did the original Slayer shoes with the blood splatters on the shoe…and it sold. So then Vans said, ‘Hey, we want to do more shoes.’ So they did two — the slip-ons and the high-tops. And they were fucking cool.’ We did snowboards, skateboards…all kinds of shit like that. Really cool shit.”

Slayer will hit the road this spring with Lamb Of God, Amon Amarth, and Cannibal Corpse, so make sure you catch them at one of the dates below:
