American Kerrang! readers may recognize Ruby the Hatchet as the Philadelphia band that ignited Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus Bar on fire (figuratively speaking) earlier this week at Kerrang’s first ever U.S. show. Now, the heavy psych rock band have just announced their first European tour in support of their latest album, Planetary Space Child.
Recorded in a 19th century estate deep in the Pennsylvania woods, Ruby’s third album was the product of several weeks of self-imposed isolation. The record showcases seven richly layered songs that unite heavy, doomy psychedelia with acid-rock, proto-prog, and melodic, hypnotic songcraft, complete with looming organ flourishes and rolling vocal harmonies that imbue an infectious aura.
The band’s tour kicks off in the UK, as Ruby opens for San Diego psychedelic rock trio Earthless, and will include shows with melancholic doom outfit Pallbearer (also performing at a Kerrang! show in July) on the mainland.
“Our European fans have come out in a huge way supporting Planetary Space Child, and we cannot wait to bring this energetic and prog-tinged live trip their way,” the band says. ”It will be our first time in many of these places and a very happy return to Germany and the Netherlands. We thrive off of the crowd’s enthusiasm, and Europe does it right. “
