Billie Joe Armstrong Pays Tribute To The Late Adam Schlesinger With New Cover

As part of his ace No Fun Mondays lockdown sessions, Billie Joe Armstrong has covered That Thing You Do! in tribute to Adam Schlesinger, who died in early April due to coronavirus complications.

Rather than opting for a Fountains Of Wayne track to pay tribute to the late, great musician and songwriter, the Green Day frontman took on That Thing You Do! – a song that Adam wrote for the 1996 music-comedy film of the same name.

"Another week, another No Fun Mondays," says Billie Joe. "Today’s song is a tribute to the late Adam Schlesinger and the incredible music he wrote including this one, That Thing You Do!."

As well as being another great cover for these lockdown sessions, the video for Billie Joe's cover of That Thing You Do! is accompanied by a load of footage from when Green Day played an intimate show at New York's Irving Plaza back in 2012, which you can see more of here:

On top of recording these covers for No Fun Mondays, Billie Joe has been working on new music, exclusively telling Kerrang! that he’s already written six new songs, and hopes to get together in the studio with bassist Mike Dirnt, drummer Tré Cool and Father Of All… producer Butch Walker when all of this is over.

“I’ve been writing a lot of music, and I had all these melodies in my head, so I wrote, like, six songs since all of this has been going on,” he revealed. “I don’t know when I can get together with Mike and Tré, but I told them to make sure that they’re quarantined for now, and then I hope down the road we can get back in the studio with Butch Walker.”
