See Green Day perform Dilemma at the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special
Having recently wrapped up the North American leg of The Saviors Tour, have Green Day put their feet up just yet? Clearly not…
“We’ve seen so many of our peers struggle with addiction and mental illness…” Watch the video for Green Day’s personal new single Dilemma, taken from their upcoming 14th album Saviors.
Green Day have unveiled a personal and powerful new single, Dilemma.
The song – which follows previous 2023 singles The American Dream Is Killing Me and Look Ma, No Brains! – is taken from their 14th album Saviors, set for release on January 19, 2024.
Speaking about Dilemma’s meaning, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong reveals that it “was one of those songs that was kind of easy to write because it was so personal to me. We’ve seen so many of our peers struggle with addiction and mental illness. This song is all about the pain that comes from those experiences.”
In a world-exclusive interview with Kerrang!, Billie Joe also calls Dilemma one of his “favourite” songs from Saviors, and explains how, “I think it really cuts to the core of drug addiction, alcohol addiction and mental health. The first line is, ‘Welcome to my problems / It’s not an invitation.’ It almost sounds like Facebook within itself (laughs). It’s like, ‘Come feel sorry for me, come feel my pain.’ But, you know, I don’t have Facebook or Twitter, so I just do it in songs to where I think with melody it becomes more relatable, and people can interpret it in the different ways they want. It could be me just joking, but it could be dead fucking serious, too.”
