Who we’re looking for

Kerrang! is seeking a talented Staff Writer to join our editorial team.

As well as a passion for music and an understanding of what makes Kerrang!’s world so unique, the right candidate will also be immersed in alternative culture and be brimming with ideas for stories away from the norm.

You will be based in our London office and be part of a tight-knit team that produces exclusive editorial and visual content for a worldwide audience on a daily basis.

You must be capable of working at speed with the ability to communicate clearly and assume leadership on projects as required.

Experience of writing for a digital audience is required, alongside experience of using CMS platforms. Knowledge of SEO is preferred but not essential.

This is an ideal opportunity for a young writer to break into the highly-competitive world of music and culture journalism.

Applicants should contact [email protected] with their full CV, a covering letter outlining why they want to join the Kerrang! team, and links to any relevant published work.

Please also send an outline of two editorial features you think would be appealing to the Kerrang! audience – one music-based and one tied to wider culture.

Remember to put the title of the job you are applying for in the subject line.

Further tasks may be sent to all those who are invited to interview.

Closing date: February 4, 2022.

This is an incredible opportunity to join Kerrang! at a time when we’re growing on a worldwide basis and evolving in genuinely exciting ways.

Responsibilities and duties for the Staff Writer will include:

  • Writing news stories, features, reviews and more for digital and print.

  • Working closely with editors and the commercial team to create content.

  • Interviewing artists and other key figures while working to a brief.

  • Remaining up-to-date on the latest musical and cultural trends.

Plus any other reasonable requests from the editorial and commercial teams.

  • Experience of creating content for publication.

  • Exceptional creativity and a passion for telling stories.

  • The ability to use content management systems.

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

  • A strong command of the English language.

  • A professional approach to timekeeping and deadlines.
