The Smashing Pumpkins have confirmed they’ve already received “over 10,000” applications to be their new, additional guitarist.

Earlier this month, the alternative rock legends – who are currently a trio comprised of vocalist/guitarist Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin – put a public call-out for a new member, and asked those interested to send over a “resume and related material”.

Well, it’s been less than two weeks since that post went live, and they’ve since been inundated, sharing today that they have “received over 10,000 submissions for the position of an additional guitarist”.

Taking it all very seriously, a statement from the band adds that: “Currently, there are 8 people working full-time to review each and every one.”

Wow!

The Smashing Pumpkins will be back in the UK with Weezer this summer, at the following co-headline dates:

June

7 Birmingham Utilita Arena
8 London The O2
10 Dublin 3Arena
12 Glasgow OVO Hydro
13 Manchester Co-op Live
14 Cardiff Castle
