Over 600 days since their last proper show, twenty one pilots returned to the stage over the weekend for a mind-blowingly cool headline set at Summerfest.
The duo – Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun – performed a colossal setlist for the Milwaukee crowd for their first gig since 2019, throwing various snippets and medleys of all sorts of songs into the mix as well as all their usual fan-favourites and massive singles.
One of the most notable moments came right towards the end of the set before customary closer Trees, with twenty one pilots adding a cover of My Chemical Romance's classic single I'm Not Okay (I Promise) in the middle of the band's own 2021 track Shy Away.
And though you might not initially think the angsty emo of I'm Not Okay would seamlessly fit into the dancey alt.pop of Shy Away, well… you'd be very, very wrong.
