Iron Maiden have taken to social media to celebrate The Trooper being used in the colossal Stranger Things finale.
The heavy metal icons’ 1983 Piece Of Mind classic follows in the footsteps of Metallica’s Master Of Puppets, which famously played in Stranger Things 4 when fan-favourite metalhead Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) unleashed his best shredding skills in the Upside Down.
Now, appropriately, the latest – and final-ever – episode of Stranger Things, Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up, nods back to Eddie and his heroics. If you’ve not seen it yet then stop reading now, but if you have, then you’ll have watched Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) deliver a memorable speech at their high school graduation, with The Trooper blasting loud and Dustin revealing a superb HELLFIRE LIVES! T-shirt underneath his more formal graduation gown.
Speaking to Tudum, co-creator Ross Duffer explained that, “A lot of it was inspired by Eddie – even at the end where [Dustin] rips the diploma and flips off the principal, which is something that Eddie said he wanted to do. A lot of it is honouring Eddie and what Hellfire had been. A lot of what Hellfire represents and a lot of what Dustin’s talking about is one of the major themes of the show, which is that this is a story about outsiders and outcasts. It’s about banding together and embracing your otherness to defeat the evils of this world.”
Posting about The Trooper soundtracking the occasion, Maiden write (alongside an upside-down picture of Eddie – nice!) on Instagram: “Stranger Things HAS happened... and Eddie got his moment! Yet to see the finale? Stream now on @netflix”
