My Chemical Romance's Hometown Shows Celebrated With Billboards Around Newark

My Chemical Romance's New Jersey stop on their upcoming tour has received grand promotion around their hometown.

My Chemical Romance's Hometown Shows Celebrated With Billboards Around Newark

You might not commonly associate My Chemical Romance with New Jersey, but one should never forget that everyone's favorite goth-punk bands hail from Newark. Now, as MCR are preparing to return to their hometown to play two massive shows this fall, guitarist Frank Iero proudly shared images of four billboards on Instagram advertising the band’s shows at the Prudential Center in Newark on September 22 and 23.

Frank posted the following to his Instagram:

As one user with the handle murderbydeath commented, both shows are already sold out: “😂 u sold it out so fast, they didn't have time to cancel the billboards! 💕”

“hahah that’s actually true…” Frank replied. “but i’m so excited to have NJ ones i would have asked not to cancel anyway”

Frank has every right to be excited. The 18-date tour -- My Chemical Romance's first in nine years -- sold out in under six hours, with 228,600 tickets sold. The second Newark date was added soon after the first date sold out.

In an earlier heartfelt post, Frank wrote that My Chemical Romance were the first band to play at the Prudential Center, when Bon Jovi asked them to open for them the first of a series of headline shows to mark the arena’s opening in 2007. That was the last time My Chemical Romance played the venue, also known as The Rock and home of the New Jersey Devils.

“Now it’s 2020, 13 years later and my friends and i are back to headline the Rock, our hometown arena located less than 7 miles from the house i grew up in, and the current stomping ground of the @njdevils 🖤 it really is a dream come true, i couldn’t make this shit up if i tried!” Frank wrote on Instagram.

My Chemical Romance’s December 20 return show at The Shrine in Los Angeles was the highest-grossing show in the venue’s history, making a grand total of $1,451,745.
