Usually, when the month of October begins, comments about ‘waking up’ Green Day are all over the internet (y’know, because of the song Wake Me Up When September Ends). But this year, the band have beaten people to it, telling everyone else to ‘wake up’… because they’re up to something.

The punk rock legends have just unveiled a new 33-second teaser video, featuring frontman Billie Joe Armstrong turning off an alarm (which, side note, sounds like it could be a new Green Day song) and sitting up in bed, and seemingly staring at a calendar on the wall that has several significant dates on in October: there’s October 1, which says “WAKE ME UP!!” and right at the end of the month, there’s Halloween.

Elsewhere, October 21 and 22 have the note “WWWY!” which of course points to Green Day’s headlining sets at When We Were Young Fest alongside blink-182. And then, perhaps most excitingly of all, is the date October 24. It doesn’t have anything written on it, but it’s circled in red pen…

The caption on this social media video reads, “It’s October 1st, WAKE UP. Now go hit snooze on theamericandreamiskillingme.com”, and it takes you to a website featuring that same video, as well as the option to ‘snooze’. If you click on that button, you’re then able to enter your details and ‘register for a wake-up call’ and set the alarm.

Hopefully, then, this is all a big teaser for some new music, given that Green Day performed a brand-new song called 1981 live back in July, and at the end of 2022 they confirmed they’d been “working recording our record in London and LA”.
